ShockEater Recoil Pad

The ShockEater® Recoil Pad is the latest advancement in recoil absorption technology. It keeps you shooting longer while increasing accuracy, comfort, and consistency with your long guns. Made with our proprietary Nano-Poly™ technology, the ShockEater® Recoil Pad is an insert style shooting pad designed to reduce peak felt recoil without increasing length of pull or altering appearance. At only 8 mm thick and 1.4 ounces in weight, it provides superior shock absorption in a form that is lighter and thinner than any foam or gel can provide.

The ShockEater® Recoil Pad conforms to the shoulder area, supporting proper gun fit and improving pitch and toe angles at the butt-stock. This combination of unique fit and absorption properties allow for maximum comfort and reduced felt recoil. More comfort, less pain means hitting your target with greater consistency.  The ShockEater® Recoil Pad is compatible with many of the leading shooting vests and shirts, making it the optimal accessory for a variety of shooters from first timers to seasoned veterans.

“The most effective way to reduce recoil without increasing length of pull or altering appearance.”

The ShockEater® Recoil Pad is designed to fit in the recoil pad pocket of our ShockEater® Shooting Shirts, as well as variety of shooting vests, shirts, and jackets made by ShockEater, Wild Hare, MizMac, Peregrine Field Gear, Browning, Kevin’s, Ball & Buck, NICA, Wild Antler Outdoors, & B.E.S.T.The ShockEater Recoil Pad was not designed to fit perfectly the Beretta, Eddie Bauer, or Orvis vests. We do have many customers that use our recoil pad with these brands, however the pad will need to be pinned or secured due to these garments having an oversized pocket.

How do I insert the ShockEater® Recoil Pad in my shooting garment?

The pad is designed to simply slide into the shooting pocket on your garment. Some brands of gear may have the pad sliding into the pocket from the top and others sliding in from the side.

Which way should the pad be facing in the pocket?

The pad is designed to work with either side facing out, however we recommend placing the pad in the pocket of your garment so that the smooth side will be against your body. The ShockEater® logo should be on the bottom and facing out.

The pad doesn’t feel as “soft” as I expected. How will this absorb recoil?

At first touch, the ShockEater® material does not feel as soft as traditional gel, foam or rubber pads and this is by design. One of the most common misconceptions about any type of padding is that “soft and squishy” means better absorption. With advances in technology we’re happy to put that myth to bed. Soft and squishy no longer means better performance.

Gels, foams, and rubbers simply create a buffer between you and the recoil. As a result, there is a direct correlation between how thick those pads are and how effective they will be. Mounting your gun often compresses these materials reducing their effectiveness. ShockEater® absorbs recoil differently. With our Nano-Poly technology, softness or thickness have no bearing on how much recoil the pad can absorb, because it absorbs the recoil based on the science of the material, not how soft it feels.

Our technology allows the pad to absorb recoil in two ways:

  1. Improve gun fit – The ShockEater® Recoil Pad is designed be soft enough to conform to your gunstock when mounting, creating a “sweet spot” in the pad that will be unique to your mounting style. This provides a customized position for your shoulder, supporting consistent mounting and proper gun fit.
  1. Eat the Kick – Forget about creating a buffer… ShockEater®works at a molecular level to literally “Eat the Kick” and absorb recoil within the material itself. When moved slowly the molecules within the polymer will just slide past each other, making the material soft/conformal to touch. But when a high-energy impact occurs, the molecules grip onto one another, locking together to absorb and dissipate energy for just a few milliseconds before releasing and becoming soft and conformal once again.  That’s why we call it the ShockEater®… it will literally “eat” the shock and vibration associated with recoil.
