Description
Peregrine Field Gear is proud to introduce Version 2.0 of the Trekker Dog Handler’s Vest. We’ve incorporated our many years of upland hunting experience and the comments and suggestions of numerous other avid hunters and dog handlers to bring you this premium upland hunting vest. We also ran this vest through extensive field testing with numerous hard core hunters to make sure it would stand up to the challenges of upland hunting.
New Updates for 2018 include:
- Lighter weight, yet rugged water repellent fabric with ballistic-grade nylon thread
- Ergonomic shell pockets with magnetic flaps
- Removable, closed-bottom neoprene shell loops (12, 20 or 28 ga)
- Integrated waist belt to support game pouch
- 1-way brass YKK zipper
First and foremost, we designed this vest so that those large roosters can actually be loaded from the front quickly and easily! The front opening of the game pouch has a snap expansion that provides a huge 14+” opening for loading big birds.
Second, this vest was designed with the dog handler in mind. The Velcro transmitter pockets on the chest lay flat when empty, but expand to accommodate virtually every make and model of e-collar transmitter. The elastic restrainer loop is easily secured around the antenna of larger remotes to prevent them from falling out when you bend over. The mesh front on the pockets provides easier identification of transmitter buttons and D-rings next to the pockets provide attachment points for lanyards. In addition, two reinforced water bottle holders (with drain holes) means that you can carry enough water for you and your four legged friend.
Third, the “Trekker” upland vest gets its name because in addition to the dual water bottle holders, it also has a rear rucksack for carrying your first aid kit or your lunch, or for stowing those extra layers later in the day when things are warming up.
Fourth, like all shooting apparel that we produce, the Trekker vest has an inside pocket under each shooting pad that accepts the revolutionary ShockEater® Recoil Pad. So, now you can use those heavy high brass loads and not worry about bruising your shoulder in the process.
And if that’s not enough, we also engineered in some other great features including magnetic pocket flaps, a zippered bottom on the shell pockets (for easy emptying and clean out), hand warmer pockets, internal accessories pockets, expandable rear game pouch and a zippered game pouch.
Finally, as with all products made by Peregrine Outdoor Products, this vest comes with a “no questions asked” Lifetime Guarantee. So enjoy those long hikes through fields, briars, fence rows and thickets knowing that Peregrine has your back. Happy hunting.
David Fluckiger –
I used the Peregrine Field Gear Trekker Dog Handler’s Vest v2.0 for the first time in Maine, hunting Grouse and Woodcock. The Maine woods are thick and the terrain is rugged. The vest did everything I wanted it too and nothing I didn’t. I ordered the large but sent it back for the medium which is perfect for me. Jack at Shock Eater was very helpful. To me the waist belt is the key to this vest. With a load of gear, water, and birds, the waist belt kept everything in place and off my shoulders. Even climbing over slash, blowdowns and rocks, everything stayed in place. It was warm one day so I kept it unzipped, and it still stayed put nicely. The magnetic close front pockets were easy to get into but kept debris out. The neoprene shell holders are easy to get shells out of, but difficult to load on the fly. Loading them ahead of time is a must but not a big deal. The backpack that is built in was appreciated when it got warm and we stripped layers off. That thing holds a ton. The one item I didn’t use and will take off is the 2 pockets meant for collar transmitters. My Garmin Pro 550 barely fit, but more importantly I didn’t find it conveniently located and finding button was difficult. This could be because I run my 550 on a belt loop off a carabiner and it just works well for me there. Time will tell how well it stands up but it went through a punishing test for 4 days with no failures. There are so many vests on the market that it is hard to choose and they can’t do it all, but this one does many things really well. I would highly recommend this vest.
